Mary A. Angelo

Our dearest brothers and sisters in Christ, We would like to inform you of a great loss. “Amerisouda” Mary Angelo fell asleep in the Lord on December 9th. Amerisouda is survived by her brother, as she called him, Father Andrew Maginas and her sister Presbytera Eleni Maginas. She is also survived by her nephew Father Angelo Maginas, his wife Presbytera Mary and their children Andreas, Stephen and Evfemia. She is also survived by her nephew and godson Arthur, his wife Anastasia and their children Elisavet and Matthew. She often referred to her nephews as her children as she was a great part of their life.

Prior to moving to West Palm Beach and becoming a steward of Saint Catherine Church she was a steward of Saint Stefanos in West Palm Beach and Saint John the Divine in Jacksonville. Amerisouda was a member of Philoptochos in West Palm Beach. She was an educator in Hillsborough and Palm Beach counties.

Amerisouda prayed for and fed those who were hungry, destitute and in great need. She stopped to help people in need. She always asked for the guardian angel to watch over her family and herself. She knew and quoted Bible passages, sang hymns and lived the Liturgy. She loved the Lord more than life. She was particularly fond of “when I was hungry you fed me and when I was in prison you visited me.” She always prayed to Jesus and through His mother the Theotokos.

It is devastating to lose a sister. She was a very kind, generous and loving soul. She forgave those who wronged her because she wanted to inherit the kingdom. She was asked when she was sick, “what do you want?” She said, “I choose life, but if God calls, I want to go to heaven”. Near the end one of the doctors asked her “where is home”? She looked up. He said, “heaven”? She said “yes”.

Amerisouda’s family will receive friends on Monday, December 16th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 6411 Parker Ave, West Palm Beach. The Trisagion service will be offered at 6:30 pm. The funeral service will on Tuesday, December 17th beginning at 11:30 am (following the 10 am Divine Liturgy for Saint Dionysios) at Saint Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, 110 Southern Blvd.
