Born on October 15th, 1973, in Lincolnshire, IL, Karen was raised mostly in Newtown, PA. As a child, Karen loved both sports and animals; that love would continue throughout her life. She was graduated from The Lawrenceville School in 1992, where she lettered in lacrosse, ice hockey, and field hockey; she also worked for the school camp, counseling underprivileged children. After high school, she earned her BA in Women’s Studies and English from Hamilton College in 1996, where she played women’s lacrosse and performed with the campus comedy troupe, Bobby Peru.
After graduation, Karen began a long career in marketing, working at Grey Advertising, Harte-Hanks, and Major League Baseball Advanced Media, among others. As the Director of Marketing and Operations at Grand Central Terminal, she revitalized the iconic landmark’s brand, producing events that were often featured in the pages of The New York Times. After moving to Florida, she worked as the Marketing Director for the Boynton Beach Mall and Gray Roberts & Associates.
Karen faced significant health challenges later in her life that forced her to cut back on her work schedule. As a lifelong animal lover, she took these challenges as an opportunity to pursue a new career, providing love and care for dozens of pets in the West Palm Beach area.
Throughout her life, Karen constantly found new ways to challenge herself. She performed stand-up comedy in New York City clubs, was an active advocate for women’s rights, and continued playing a variety of sports. She later became an accomplished artist; many of her subjects were the beloved animals for which she cared. Karen was also active in the recovery community, providing friendship and support for many friends and family members. Karen’s kindness, humor, intelligence, and compassion are at the heart of the legacy she leaves behind.
Karen is survived by her parents, Mark and Dana Weber; her brother Mark Weber, Jr. and his wife Linda Andrzejewski Weber; her sister Kristine Weber and her husband Brett Sculthorp; her sister Colleen Spiegelhoff and her husband Jon Spiegelhoff; her sister Kathleen Schaffer and her husband Charlie Schaffer; her niece Zoe; and her nephews; Theodore, Max, Luke, Jack, Bhaerava and Ryland. Karen will also be missed by her beloved cat, Julia Childs, whom she showered with the same love, care, and affection that she offered to everyone else.
There will be a celebration of Karen’s life in late January in the Palm Beach area; details will follow shortly. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local animal shelter in Karen’s name.
