Karen DeLoreto, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend left this world on a leap year, February 29, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness. Born in Detroit, Michigan, to James and Wanda Hubbard, Karen grew up with a nurturing spirit that would define her life's work and relationships.
Karen moved with her family from Michigan to West Palm Beach at age two. She attended Twin Lakes High School and upon graduating from nursing school she worked at Good Samaritan Medical Center, J.F.K. Hospital and Wellington Regional Medical Center. Karen was inspired to advance her education and earned a master’s degree in nursing from Barry University while her three children attended Florida State. She raised her children in West Palm Beach before moving to Weeki Wachee Springs in 2003. Karen loved fishing, boating, and taking her RV on adventures. She eventually settled in Atlantic Beach, FL, where she adored being close to her grandchildren in her beautiful home and charming beach town. Throughout her life, Karen exemplified the qualities of a true caregiver, dedicating three decades as a registered nurse. She served tirelessly in emergency rooms, offering comfort and healing to those in need. In the latter half of her career, Karen's compassionate heart led her to oversee medical units for federal, private prisons, where she continued to make a difference in the lives of others.
Beyond her professional achievements, Karen's greatest joy came from being a mother and grandmother. She poured boundless love and wisdom into her children, Derek (Nicole), Christina, and Marcie (Brian), and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, Victoria, Anabella, and Dominic. Karen's family was the center of her world, and her devotion to them knew no bounds.
In her leisure time, Karen found solace and creativity in crocheting and knitting, crafting beautiful pieces that reflected her gentle spirit. She also shared a passion for sports, particularly cheering on her beloved Jacksonville Jaguars.
Karen's memory will forever be cherished by her children, grandchildren, brothers Ralph, Roger, and Randy, as well as a host of relatives and friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and generosity. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Wanda, and her brother, Jamie.
To honor Karen's remarkable life, a funeral service will be held on March 16, 2024, at 10:00 am at Hillcrest Memorial Park in West Palm Beach, FL. Following the service, her life will be celebrated from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Isla & Co., allowing friends and family to come together and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in honor of Karen's lifelong commitment to caring for others.
Though Karen may have left this world, her love and legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. Rest in peace, dear Karen (Gramma), knowing your kindness and compassion will always be remembered.
