Daniel Downey

Our father grew up in West Palm Beach, graduated from St Bernard, a Benedictine Preparatory School in Cullman, Alabama in 1940, and was awarded an academic scholarship to the University of Notre Dame. He often said his years at Notre Dame were the happiest of his life. He fought with the US Army in northern France and in Germany during WW2.

Our father received his law degree from the University of Miami in 1955, just before his 5th daughter was born, and has practiced law with his son Edward, until his death. He was a member of the Florida Bar for almost 60 years. He was also a CPA. Our father's accolades are too numerous to mention, but delightedly, more than once he shot his age in golf.

Our father, the 3rd child of Daniel Downey and Edith Chamberlain Downey, was born September 15, 1922, at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was predeceased by our beautiful mother, Doris Herrmann Downey, and also by his sister, Ellen Downey Beuttenmuller and his brother, the Honorable James Chamberlain Downey.

Our father is survived by five daughters and three sons: Catherine (David J. White), Carolyn, Christine (Dr. Thomas V. Moser (d)), Ellen, (Luis A. deArmas), Marilyn (Mark McCracken), Daniel (Elizabeth Hund), Edward, (Julie Black) and John (Cathy Cross), seventeen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a large extended family which includes lifelong friends. Our father was devoted to his work and to us his family, every single day of his life. His greatest gift to us was his constant example of a life lived with integrity in thought word and action.

Visitation: St. Juliana Catholic Church Friday, 3-5pm, with a Scripture service to begin at 5:00pm. Funeral Mass Saturday, St Juliana Catholic Church, 10:30am,followed by Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, West Palm Beach.

He was the finest of men. Dad, may the angels lead you into paradise.
