24th of February 1939 – 4th of December 2021
It is with the greatest of sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Dietrich (Derek) Baehr. He was a beloved husband to Sharyn (née Thompson), a proud father to Mark (Sharon, née Gibbs), Myscha, and Sabryna (Demeain), and an adoring grandfather to Emma, Rachel, Emylia, and Nathyn.
Frank, along with his parents (Erica and Hans) and his sisters Ursula (Tony) and Monica (Stefan) moved to Canada from Germany in 1956, establishing themselves in the Toronto area and building a cottage in the Kawartha Lakes.
In 1965, Frank discovered his passion of Matsubyashi-Ryu Karate after living in Okinawa and training with Grand Master Shoshin Nagamine. Upon his return home with his black belt, he established the first Matsubyashi-Ryu Karate Dojo in Canada.
Frank enjoyed electronics, trains, astronomy/space, and science fiction. He held onto his German heritage while also proudly being Canadian and always enjoyed Rote Gruetze (a childhood favourite) and delicious German cakes and fruit flans.
Frank will be deeply missed by all who knew him... the world will feel a bit emptier without his puns, warm smile, calm aura, and loving personality.
Die Erinnerung an einen Menschen geht nie verloren, wenn man ihn im Herzen behaelt. (The memory of someone will never fade, when someone holds them in their heart).
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.giffenmackscarborough.com for the Baehr family.
