Gordon “Bo” F. McIntyre of Dennisport, Massachusetts, passed away after years of fighting respiratory complications on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Cape Cod Hospital. He was 81 years old. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and loyal friend.
Bo was born July 26, 1942, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, to the late Gordon Matthew McIntyre and Barbara “Milie” (Young). Bo was educated in the South Boston School System, at Boston Latin High School, and graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, MA, with an Accounting Degree. He excelled in sports, especially football and baseball.
Bo retired from The Gillette Company in South Boston after a 20-year career as Cost Accounting Manager in the Safety Razor Division. After Gillette, he was an owner of the South Boston Liquor Mart for many years. Over the last 10 years, he became an expert on PSA-graded sports cards by running a successful eBay online store called 20th Century Sports.
Bo married Joan (Carpenter) and they lived in North Easton, MA, and Bridgewater, MA, before moving to Dennisport, MA, in 2017 where they made a home in a Cape Cod family cottage that Bo cherished from his childhood visits.
Bo put his faith in Christ at age 66 after joining the South Shore Community Church in Brockton, MA, where he served as Treasurer and Board Member for 5 years and made many lifelong friends. A unique spiritual experience led Bo to write a memoir about growing up in South Boston during the 1950’s and 60’s, followed by his return in the ’80’s and 90’s as a store owner. The published book is called “The Long Way Home - A Journey from South Boston to Redemption”.
Being an avid reader, Bo’s vocabulary and encyclopedic knowledge of the Bible, baseball, football, horse racing, boxing, U.S. and world history, old movies, actors, and early radio shows was impressive. Late in life he wrote poetry and valued the poetic lyrics of Bob Dylan, The Doors, and others. Bo had a soft spot for all animals, enjoyed having deep conversations, and sharing his clever wit and stories with family and friends.
Bo is survived by his loving wife, Joan (Carpenter) McIntyre, of Dennisport, MA; Margaret Gunn McIntyre (former wife) of Halifax, MA and their two children; John F. McIntyre (son) and his wife Beth(Enos) McIntyre of Halifax, MA; Kellie Lynn (McIntyre) Marcolini (daughter) and her husband Thomas Marcolini of Hanson, MA; three brilliant grandchildren: Kelsey Marcolini, Corey Marcolini and Connor McIntyre; Gail (McIntyre) Hockney (sister) and her husband James Hockney of Whitman, MA; and Dorothy McIntyre of Marshfield, MA and a host of caring nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws from the extended families.
Bo was predeceased by both his parents and his brother, Dennis Roy McIntyre, U.S. Veteran, in 2020.
