Sean Sellers, 52, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018. Sean was a classic Floridian, a surfing and sun-loving guy. In 1994, he married Mary Booms Sellers, the love of his life, in Vero Beach, a wedding many still refer to as the “most legendary ever.” Mary and Sean called several states home and in 1999, they proudly began calling Iowa home. They supported each other throughout moves, new careers, trials and celebrations. Sean and Mary are an exemplary portrayal of partnership, love and admiration.
The Booms family felt they won the brother-in-law lottery. Sean could always be counted on and never missed a family event; no distance would keep him from family. Uncle Sean’s arrival was always anticipated by his 16 nieces and nephews, and 13 great nieces and nephews. He especially loved Thanksgiving, taking his role seriously as the official turkey carver.
There was no room Sean couldn’t fill with his signature laugh, giggle and charm. He had a larger-than-life personality, a dude that you just wanted to be around. Sean was a generous friend and a dynamic leader. He could muscle his way through any situation and he had the intelligence to see the paths and the knowledge to know which one to take. He was an avid reader and learner. He earned his bachelors from Florida Southern College and his MBA from Drake University.
Those that knew Sean professionally knew his vibrant character, amazing work ethic and his kind heart. His kindness and concern extended to his teams who witnessed first-hand his ability to mentor, encourage and support all who came to work with him. He was driven to succeed and will be remembered for his many achievements. Sean’s generosity and spirit is a legacy we will all strive to achieve.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Embassy Club West, 520 Market Street, West Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Sean Sellers Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines to support his passion for early childhood reading.
