Russell Wayne Bittner, 70, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in his home in Des Moines Iowa, following multiple health complications. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date with burial at Marietta Cemetery near Marshalltown, Iowa.
Russell was born March 11, 1954, in Des Moines, Iowa to Edwin Harold and Betty Jane (Sharp) Bittner. After completing his 8th-grade education, Russell entered the workforce in various positions, including as a sheet metalist before his retirement. In mid-life, Russell married Jolene Kahl and celebrated 25 years of wedded bliss with the love of his life before she was called home to be with the Lord. Russell was a member of the Indianola Church of Christ, and he loved his church family.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor, walking with a big stick, and his longing to reunite with Jolene in heaven.
Russell is survived by his sister Betty Jane Crane, sisters-in-law Jan and Jay Kahl, and brothers-in-law Dean Kahl and Dan Dorr. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Misty Burkhead, Edwin Bittner, Tracey Christian, Sharon Bittner Amber Peebles, Theresa Bittner, Alexandra Aquilera, and many great nieces and nephews. Russell was preceded in death by his wife Jolene in 2021, his parents, and siblings Nancy Williams, Ed Bittner, and Katherine Taylor.
