Ronald C. Evans

Ronald C. Evans, 78, of Clive, passed away peacefully in the early hours of December 4, 2024, with his family holding him close in their hearts. A celebration of Ronald’s remarkable life will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines, beginning at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at 2 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.

Ronald was born on May 8, 1946, in Yakima, Washington, to Samuel and Shirley (Vaughan) Evans. He grew up in West Des Moines and graduated from Valley High School in 1964. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1968. During his naval service, Ronald was recognized with numerous medals, including the Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal, exemplifying his dedication, skill, and patriotism. He was honorably discharged in 1972 and returned home to pursue higher education.

A lifelong learner, Ronald followed his passion for healing by earning a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University. For decades, he helped countless individuals find relief and wellness, earning the respect and admiration of his patients and peers alike. Ronald’s expertise extended globally, as he became an international lecturer and teacher within his profession, sharing his knowledge and inspiring others. He authored numerous textbooks on orthopedic chiropractic care, further contributing to the advancement of his specialty and leaving a lasting impact on the profession.

Ronald’s professional achievements were a testament to his dedication and expertise. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists and a Fellow of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists. His leadership and insight earned him appointments by Governor Terry Branstad to the Iowa Health Reform Council and by the U.S. Secretary of Defense to the Oversight Committee for Chiropractic Healthcare within the Department of Defense.

Ronald’s zest for life extended far beyond his career. He cherished days spent fly fishing and competing in pistol-shooting tournaments. He was equally at home on the golf course, where his quick wit and easy laughter made him a favorite companion. Ronald loved traveling to explore new places and cultures, always with a keen appreciation for good company, a fine cigar, and a glass of scotch in hand.

A devoted family man, Ronald will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the wisdom he shared so freely. He deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and brother, and he was a loyal friend to many. His ability to find joy in life’s small moments and his adventurous spirit will forever inspire those who knew him.

The Evans family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sundaramurthy for the exceptional care and support provided throughout Ronald’s journey.

Ronald is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Linda; his children, Ryan (Lisa) of Ankeny and David (Emily) of Johnston; his grandchildren Sam, Chanel, Andy, Jenni, and Maggie; his brother, Tom (Vickie) of Urbandale; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Shirley.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to the National Kidney Foundation.

Ronald’s life was a testament to love, service, and a pursuit of happiness that touched all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will forever be a source of comfort and joy to those who were fortunate enough to share in his extraordinary journey.
