Robert "Bob" C. Turner

Robert “Bob” Charles Turner passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, from pancreatic cancer, surrounded by loved ones. Bob was born January 25, 1948, and graduated from Des Moines Lincoln High School in 1967. Following graduation, he went to work for Western Electric. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969. Following his honorable discharge in 1971, he returned to Western Electric/AT&T from which he retired in 2001. Bob worked a variety of part time jobs after retiring, most recently as a shuttle driver with Charles Gabus Ford, a job he thoroughly enjoyed, driving, and meeting new people and sharing his fun-loving sense of humor.

Bob’s hobbies included fishing (a frustrating but enjoyable past time), gambling (an even greater frustration but enjoyable past time.), and many memorable family vacations, especially throughout the Western U.S. He cared deeply about his family and friends and spent much care selecting just the right card to give each of them on special occasions. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor (and many off color jokes). He was a member of the Isaac Walton league. He faced his 3+ year battle with pancreatic cancer with dignity and humility.

Bob is survived by his wife of 28 years, Terri Turner; sons, Kevin Turner, Michael (Sara) Lammers and Jeremy (Megan) Misner; sisters, Cindy Holbrook, Connie (Randy) Johnson and Carmen (John) Willmore; brother, Roger Turner; father-in-law, Merwin Bumgarner; sister-in-law, Wendy (Scott) Falk; brother-in-law, Todd Bumgarner; grandchildren, Colton Lambertz, Carter Lammers, State and Collins Turner and Caden Misner; aunt, Betty Reed; many nieces and nephews; and lovingly missed by his dog Barkley, who was always by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Juanita (Camp) Turner and Clinton Turner; sister, Carol Ann; infant brother, Rory; and brother, Clinton Turner Jr.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2021 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th St., West Des Moines, IA. A Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2021 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel. Memorials can be directed to the Rotary Club of Waukee to support scholarships or the Mercy One Hospice House in Johnston.

Reflecting his concern for others, Bob requested that all attending wear a face mask.
