Robert was born on July 21st, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa to Richard and Dorothy (Brown) Hays. When he was younger, he attended Des Moines Tech, and later, he attended DMACC to pursue his studies in Graphic Design. He was enlisted in the Air Force in October of 1962, and he was discharged in 1966. In his younger years, he enjoyed going to Minnesota to spend time with his mother’s family during the Summer. Ever since he was younger, Robert had a deep love for cars, and he developed this passion through his father and his automotive business.
During his adult years, he worked for Arnold’s Auto and Keck Auto. He also worked for Iowa Methodist Hospital for 26 years, and he retired in August of 2008.
He was a key organizer for the Camaro Club of Des Moines. He participated in several car shows throughout the state, and he won several awards for the cars he showed. Many knew him for his yellow ’69 Z28 Camaro RS. He had an interest in remote-controlled cars and boats. Robert had many friends, and he enjoyed spending time with them. Bob was also a serious competitor for several bowling leagues.
Robert is survived by his cousins; many friends; his cat, Juno, and his special friend who was very important to him, Debra Pope.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
