Ralph Eugene Wimmer, 86, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines with entombment at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines.
Ralph was born September 21, 1935 in Des Moines to Hobart and Bertha (Thompson) Wimmer. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1954 and attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1960. Ralph enlisted in the U.S. Army and eventually transferred to the Army Reserves. He was a managing partner in Wimmer Asphalt Construction from 1983 to 2000 and also worked for 10 years at Walmart in produce dept. in his later years. Ralph enjoyed, gardening, fishing, and grilling. He was a member of Izaac Walton League, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Des Moines Men’s Garden Club, and Beta Theta Pi for over 60 years. Ralph was always very charitable to others and will be missed.
Ralph is lovingly remembered by his son, Richard and daughter, Michelle Wimmer-Sanders (Charles Sanders). He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Sherry; parents; brother, Harold; and sisters, Darlene Rominger and Barbara Metcalf.
