Matthew (Matt) Thomas Lindsey, 84, went home to his Lord and Savior on August 16, 2023. Services will be held at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines on Monday, August 21, 2023. Visitation will be from 1 – 2 pm, and the service will start at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at the Eastside Memorial Park in Minden, Nevada.
He was born in Bakersfield, California on October 12, 1938, the youngest of three sons to Orville and Mae (Bobo) Lindsey.
Matt was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, lover of old cars, old stories, golf, fishing, malts, vanilla Oreos, chocolate covered cherries and biscuits and gravy.
Matt grew up in Hollydale, California, attending Compton Community Schools. Some of his best years were spent at the newly built Paramount High School where he excelled in football and baseball, belonged to the Cancellers car club, and met the love of his life Diana (DeDe) Forsyth. He was a part of the very first class to graduate from the school. His life was a classic “American Graffiti” story.
After high school, Matt attended Compton Community College to play football. He loved to share stories of all the amazing guys he met there. Matt continued to play pick-up football games and slow pitch softball for many years.
Matt married DeDe on December 26, 1958, when she was a senior in high school. They moved into an apartment across the street from the high school so DeDe could finish her senior year. They were blessed with two daughters and were married for 58 years until her passing in March of 2017.
Matt spent the majority of his career in southern California as a machinist and department manager, working for various aerospace manufacturing companies. His work allowed him to be part of the team that created the Polaris missile and the Apollo space program.
Matt and DeDe moved to Gardnerville, Nevada in 1993, where he retired from Chromalloy in Carson City, Nevada. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, which made the Lake Tahoe area the perfect place to live. Upon the passing of his wife, Matt moved to West Des Moines, IA to be closer to his daughters.
Matt loved many things, but his absolute greatest joy were his two daughters, Teri and Peri. He would share with everyone, whether they asked or not, how blessed he was. He was a very proud dad!
More than anything, Matt loved being with his family, whether in person or looking at the many photos that covered all the walls in his home. Those who came to visit got to meet everyone and hear stories about his kids.
Matt came to know Jesus in Paramount and his faith grew through the years. His favorite thing every other Wednesday was his men’s bible study group. He looked forward to his home going with Jesus!
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Peri (John) Halma, son-in- law, Mikel Tebbutt, six beloved grandchildren, Dustin Halma, Daniel (Jenny) Halma, Lindsey (Larry) Stern, Mark (Sophie) Halma, Noah (Ashley) Tebbutt, Cori (Brandon) Kimminau, seven great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Stern, Lane Stern, Landon Stern, Maddie Halma, Levi Stern, Emma Halma, Evie Halma and Arthur Halma. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife Diana (DeDe) Lindsey, his daughter, Terese (Teri) Tebbutt, and his brother, Irving Lindsey.
Matt’s family were so blessed and wish to thank the staff, “Matt’s girls”, of Unity Point Hospice who loved him so genuinely.
