I can't tell you how very saddened I am to hear of Jeff's passing.  Jeff, I, and 2 others were roommates at Gustavus Adolphus our senior year together.  He was a delightful, smart, fun individual; just all around a great guy.  My thoughts are with the Mains family in this very difficult and unfortunate time.

I am in NE Iowa and received a call telling me of Jeff's death.  Mike, Phyllis and Tim, you have my deepist sympathy.  While the shock of an early death is painful and difficult to accept, know that others share in your loss.  Jeff was always helpful when I called him.

Jeff appeared before me when I was a Judge in Polk County and I have worked with him as an assistant Warren County Attorney.  He was a dedicated advocate for his clients.  He will be missed.

Jeff, You were as good a friend as a judge could have. You were always prepared, always courteous and always professional. You were what we most want and expect from a lawyer. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

I worked with Jeff several years when I was a county attorney.  He is a great legal mind that will be greatly missed by our community.  He was always very caring and compassionate towards his clients.  He will be greatly missed.

We are so very sorry for this loss to Jeff's family and friends. We were Jeff's next door neighbors and while we didn't know him well, it was clear that he was a kind man that we often shared pleasant greetings with. I have only known Jeff for a few months, but I can say with certainty that he was a brilliant legal mind.  I was amazed at his understanding of the law.  He was quick to lend a hand when someone had questions.  In just the short amount of time that I knew him, I learned so much from him.

He served as our intern the summer of 1992, and offered his kindess and legal talent to the community by starting his own practice. Jeff and I were the dearest of friends in high school. I will miss him terribly. He was a great friend, so funny, and I loved listening to him play. Heather, you had a very wonderful husband. I am sorry that we didnt stay in contact over the years. My prayers are with you all.

Jeff was a brilliant attorney.  I started my law practice about a year ago and walked down the hall to meet Jeff and introduce myself. He opened his door to say hello and became my most valued resource.  I referred to him as my "walking library" because he knew everything without having to look anything up!  He helped me so much this past year, and I will always be so grateful for that.

Jeff soon grew to be a good friend to me.  I would stop by his office about once a week to chat with questions or to just talk about life.  He always welcomed me and would stop whatever he was doing to talk with me.  

Heather, I know I have not met you yet, but Jeff always spoke so highly of you.  I am so sorry for your loss.

I remember coming to your house for dinner one day.  I think it was on the forth of July, before or after the parade.  We had a BBQ outside.  People were scattered here and there.  I was sitting at the table talking to Jeff.  I remember Jeff telling me how, you, Heather, are the light of his life and how much he loved you.  He wasn't sure about everything else in life, but he knew you were his greatest blessing.  I could feel how much Jeff loved you.  I have never forgotten that.  Jeff, I appreciate you sharing that with me.

My deepest condolences to the Mains family.  Jeff always spoke of his deep love for his wife and family and the joy he took from helping clients in difficult situations.  He will be missed.

We are deeply saddened to hear about Jeff's death.
