i'm so sorry to learn of jeff's passing ...

i'm so sorry to learn of jeff's passing. i grew up with jeff also having attended st. augustins and "old" dowling high school. jeff was a "stand up" guy and fun to be around.
our paths crossed in later years as we were both in the real estate industry; and,  in more recent years as i was the building and zoning officer for dallas county.
jeff was very accomplished in his various business ventures and well respected by his peers.
he will surely be missed.
my thoughts and prayers are with family and close friends of jeff's.

So sorry to hear this.  Jeff loved life and found creative ways to keep himself and the rest of us entertained.  He was a great neighbor.

Jeff built our home and had many ideas we never could have imagined.  We so appreciated his guidance.

My Friend Jeff
I had just gotten off the phone with Jeff's son Dan who told me of Jeff's passing when I started thinking about my friend. I started thinking of what defined our friendship. What memories? 
I realized that the breadth of our nearly 50 years as friends spans so many experiences it is remarkable.
From playing pool the first time we met at our friend Tom's house when we were 14. To recently when we sat and talked in his shop at Flynn Acres. To a great extent our friendship bloomed at the Pizza Hut at 6120 Grand where we both worked for a couple of years in our high school days. 
The hallmark of our friendship over the years is no matter how long it had been since the last time we were together we could hit the ground running. Right where we left off. Such was the case with Jeff and me for close to 50 years. And we always loved to listen to music. We shared a passion for finding new and different tunes and shared them with one another. 
The Pizza Hut days stand out because that was our youth. Running the place by ourselves on Sunday's. Clandestinely sneaking a beer. Staying up until 4 in the morning playing poker in the dining room. Doing countless goofy things that teenagers do. Truly living in the moment with few cares. 
I have to laugh at our back and forth on politics in later in life. I used to write an occasional letter to the editor of the DM Register. Not so very long ago Jeff read one of my letters and responded to it. He had to set me straight. More than that when we spoke he had to correct my grammar. My sentence structure. Thing is, he knew what he was talking about with regard to the sentences. I still don't concede he was right about politics. But that was us. Both strong in our opinions.  
I was honored to be asked to stand up with Jeff at his wedding to Pam. Over the years I admired the joy my friend found in his family. His wife and his children. His pure joy when his daughter, Nicki,  was born. He was so incredibly excited. His son Dan of whom he is intensely proud. His Dad and Mom who by the way always treated me as a member of the family. His brothers and his sister whom he loved dearly. 
Finally, I would mention two other memories that I have with regard to Jeff and my family. First, my mom and Jeff went round and round chatting over the years. My mom, who was an excellent judge of character and a teacher for 35 years, loved Jeff. She used to kid him about being Eddie Haskell. In reality she only did that because she knew he was anything but an Eddie Haskell. She knew he was genuine. And when my Dad passed away in 1975. On the day of his funeral the first people I saw were Jeff & Pam. They were there for me as always. 
And so it is that Jeffery will always be there for me. Without his friendship I would not be who I am today. He is part of the man I have become. I am forever grateful.
