James “Rick” Cox, 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 15, 2022 in the presence of those he loved. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2022 followed by a service at 2 p.m. at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel. A private burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Rick worked in the printing business for 40 years including 32 years as a pressman for Acme Printing. In his retirement, he was a baseball umpire for high school and USSSA Baseball. Rick enjoyed cooking, especially preparing meals for his family. He adored his grandchildren, Everett and Thea, and loved being “Papa”. He was an avid sports fan and his favorite teams included the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Rick was also the baseball commissioner of his Scoresheet Fantasy Baseball league for many years. He found great comfort in music and especially loved the band Kansas.
When Rick walked into a room his presence was felt by everyone. He had an incredibly warm and infectious sense of humor. If you had the opportunity to know Rick, you loved him! He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
Those left to cherish Rick’s memory include his wife of 23 years, Stacy Cox; mother, Myra Cox; daughter, Chelsea Cox (Frank); son, Joseph Cox (Keriann); and youngest daughter, Ashlynn Cox; grandchildren, Everett and Thea; sister, Jackie Brierly (Dave); brother, Randy Cox (Bethann); sisters-in-law, Jayne Hart and Kate Ormsbee; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Cox.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be directed to the family for a future designation.
