Harlan Henry Dippold, 93, of Adel, Iowa, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and family. Born on April 17, 1931, in rural southeast Polk County to Henry and Helen (Shera) Dippold, Harlan grew up on a farm near Van Meter, where he developed a strong work ethic and a love for the land.
After graduating high school, Harlan proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, demonstrating his commitment to his country. On June 3, 1953, he married the love of his life, Johanna (Jo) Jean Poffenberger. While Harlan served in the Army, Jo resided in Adel, where she patiently awaited his return. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming their two beloved children, Terry and Connie.
Harlan enjoyed a fulfilling career as an electronic technician, a role he held until his retirement. In his leisure time, he found joy in collecting toy farm tractors and artwork depicting lighthouses, treasures that reflected his interests and passions.
Harlan is survived by his two children, Terry (Mary) Dippold of Urbandale and Connie Wayman of Des Moines, as well as seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, all of whom were deeply cherished by him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Johanna; his parents; and his sister, Marjorie Cooper. Harlan’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will remember him for his kindness, dedication, and the warmth he brought to their lives.
A private family service will be held to honor Harlan’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.
