Elizabeth "Betty" Jean Wilson

Betty was born February 26, 1923, in Calumet, Michigan, to John and Caroline Fisher. The youngest child with four older brothers. At the age of 3, after her mother passed away, she was raised by her Aunt Fern. She graduated high school, attended Nursing School, and graduated as a Registered Nurse. Betty joined the Army as a nurse and attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

Betty met Ray during their tour of duty during World War II. They got married in Hawaii, December 9, 1945. When Ray completed his tour of duty, they returned to his home in North Carolina. Since they were married, she was able to join him.

Once home, they spent time with Aunt Fern and Ray’s mother, Lettie, while Ray went to college to obtain his electrical engineering degree. They had their first son, Don, while Ray was still in college. Once Ray graduated, they moved to Madison, WI, where Ray became an electrical engineer salesman. Their second son; David was born at Madison, WI as well as their daughter; Susan. After several years in Wisconsin, Ray was transferred to West Des Moines, where he continued his position. Betty, during this time, was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, ceramic classes, where she made several beautiful pieces that she shared with her family. She also attended upholstery classes and reupholstered a couch.

She enjoyed feeding the little critters that came to her backyard. She had an Irish Setter which she enjoyed his company for many years. Also, Betty loved traveling and visited several US parks with Ray by bus. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a wonderful mother-in-law. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, daughter Susan Burdick, and brothers Jack, Melvin, Creighton, and Bobby Fisher.

Betty is survived by her sons, Don (Debbie) Wilson and Dave (Carolyn) Wilson, grandchildren Angela (Doug) Crowley, Christine Wilson, David (Melissa) Wilson, Kim (Charlie) Bishop, Laura (Doug) Johannessen, Rebecca (Brian) Feller, Scott (Theresa) Burdick, as well as twelve great-grandchildren. Betty also leaves behind her special friends Norma and Mary.
