Doris D. (Henneman) Johnson, 87, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time at McLaren’s.
Doris was born January 5, 1931 in Clarinda, IA to Albert and Alma Henneman. They eventually moved to Des Moines where she graduated from North High School. While at North she was on the jump rope team and was a baton twirler. Doris worked for several years at the Iowa Legislature and was secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, Robert Fulton. She started her career in the travel business at Soliday’s Holidays in 1974. Doris continued working in the travel industry until age 78. Always a hard worker, Doris worked her way to near the top of Travel & Transport. Doris enjoyed playing bridge and getting together with the lifelong friendships she maintained.
Doris married Dick Johnson on September 2, 1950. Together they raised two daughters, Judith Marie Johnson Carter Martin (Brian) and Joni Rae Johnson Speros (John). Doris is also survived by her four grandchildren: Justin Carter, Nicholas Carter (Janae), John Thomas Speros (Brittany), and Kaley Rae Speros; and one great grandson, Matthew Dwight Carter.
