Dan Douglas Gibbons, 69, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on June 12, 2024. The visitation to honor Dan’s life will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in Coneflower Shelters B & C at Raccoon River Park (overlooking the beach and playground) - 2500 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines, IA 50265.
Dan was born on August 14, 1954 to Jack and Phyllis Gibbons in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1972 before attending the University of Iowa. He married the love of his life, Donna, on October 2, 1982. Dan was an accomplished sales leader and spent over 30 years in the medical device industry. Throughout his time at Arrow International and Teleflex Medical, he forged many strong friendships that he cherished dearly. Dan had a passion for music, and loved nothing more than sharing this fervor with his family. His playing of the piano filled the home with love and joy on a daily basis. Some of his other hobbies included traveling, bird watching in the backyard, and spending time with friends and family. He was a die-hard Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed cheering on the team through their ups and downs. Dan had a charming, charismatic personality and a witty sense of humor that could light up any room. He was always willing to step in and help when called upon, and had a deep appreciation for anyone who shared that compassion throughout his personal journey.
He is survived by his son, James (Melissa); daughter, Amanda; two grandchildren, Nash and Rowen; sisters, Sue and Sherry; mother-in-law, Ann; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna; father, Jack; mother, Phyllis; and father-in-law, William.
Dan’s family would like to thank family, friends, neighbors, and his care team for their dedication and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to John Stoddard Cancer Center in Dan’s name.
