Clyde "Bud" E. Lyons

Clyde "Bud" Lyons, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 24, 2024. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2024 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. Bud's family would request anyone attending services to dress as you feel comfortable.

Born on May 18, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Clyde and Violet (Everett) Lyons, he lived a life full of service, love, and passion for his family and community. A proud graduate of North High School, Class of 1955, Bud went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Drake University. His dedication to service led him to the United States Army, where he proudly served from 1959 to 1962, stationed in Korea at the Demilitarized Zone. During his time in the Army, Bud was a Heavy Weapons Specialist and earned the title of Rifle Sharpshooter and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his exemplary service. He also had the honor of being a driver for the Captain of his company.

Bud’s career in sales spanned several decades, most notably working for Archway Cookies for 30 years. He later worked at Hy-Vee and Omnicare Pharmacy, building strong relationships within his community and contributing to his family's well-being.

An avid enthusiast of fast cars, Bud’s passions also included bowling. He began bowling at a young age and achieved numerous accolades, including three perfect games. He enjoyed bowling with his family, including his parents, sister, wife, and children, making it a cherished tradition in their lives.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Carolyn; daughters Debra (Jason), Becky, and Tara; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marianne Moss and Sheila Sydnes (Bob) He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Violet Lyons and brother William Richard Lyons.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Saint Jude or Tunnel to Towers in his honor.

Bud’s legacy of love, service, and joy will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to be a part of his life.
