Charles F."Chuck" Wasker, 90, passed away Friday, December 9, 2016 at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with a private family burial at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
Chuck was born February 4, 1926 in Boston, MA the son of Maximillian and Marie Wasker. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Chuck attended Iowa State and Drake and was a 1952 graduate of the Drake University Law School. He practiced law for over 50 years retiring as senior partner of Wasker, Dorr, Wimmer & Marcouiller, P.C. In his distinguished career Chuck received numerous professional awards and volunteered much of his time to the Des Moines community and the state of Iowa. In 2006 the Iowa Supreme Court recognized Chuck for his promotion of judicial excellence.
Chuck loved spending time with his family and enjoyed golfing, tennis and skeet shooting with his many friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Ann (Betty); children, Cindy (Ron) Zitterkopf, Chuck (Gina) Wasker Jr., and Lisa (Jerry) Stevenson; grandchildren, Lara (Joe) Sciara, Kate (Evan) Salmela, Max and Laura Wasker, Jeremiah (Taylor) and Samantha Stevenson; and many nieces, nephews, and loyal friends. His first great-grandchild is due this month. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret and Norma.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Parish or the charity of your choice.
