Carole Peterson-Taylor, 66, died at Glen Oaks Specialty Care on January 5, 2023. She endured dementia for 12 years after leaving employment at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, where she worked for over 25 years.
She was married to Roger L. Taylor of Rockwell City for 38 years until his death two years ago in Urbandale. They had no children.
Carole was a unique woman, having creative talents in the arts and a scientific mind spanning many subjects. She questioned orthodoxy of all types, collecting hundreds of books that fed her curiosity. She was a reserved person, quietly using her everyday life as a means to enable her constant searching and learning.
Some would label her as eccentric and she would laugh and agree. She was sensitive and compassionate; sometimes overwhelmed by the world. A beautiful person with uncommon perceptions and talents has been lost. Sadly not many people truly knew these things about her.
Survivors include her sister Jeannine (Peterson) Bowen, nephew Chad Bowen and numerous cousins and their families. In addition to her husband, Carole was predeceased by her parents, Alvin and Lillian (Lowe) Peterson, and her brother-in-law, Robert Bowen, aunts, uncles, and cousins are also gone.
Thanks and gratitude are extended to Suncrest Hospice for the amazing care for Carole, her husband, and her sister. Also, to Carole’s individual caregivers at Bickford Cottage and Glen Oaks Specialty Care for tenderness and compassion.
Carole’s wishes were to be cremated and no funeral service be held.
