Bonnie Stoner

What a dash! They say the beginning and ending dates don’t matter - what matters is the dash. Bonnie has had quite a dash. She has lived through the great depression, the civil rights movement, the sixties and flower power, and the technology age to a country now divided by politics. She madethe most of her dash.

Bonnie was born in Des Moines, Iowa, the only child of Lorrine Vonk and Marlin Linbloom. She was later adopted by her step-father, Arch Halterman. Bonnie was raised in Des Moines, Iowa, and attended East HIgh School where she met the love of her life, Jerry. She graduated in 1946. Bonnie and Jerold E Stoner were married June 12, 1949. She was a homemaker, running the house, entertaining, and offering

love and guidance to her children all her life.

She was an avid card player, especially bridge, and loved her Afghan Hounds - Caesar, MissyLou, and Tony, too. She was blessed with many amazing friends who shared in her life and loved her fiercely. Bonnie attended Lutheran Church of Hope with several of her close friends.

Bonnie wore many hats and was known by many names to her loved ones - madre, mama, grandma, gram cracker and Bon. She will be greatly missed by those who love her still.

Bonnie is survived by her son, Steven of Portugal, daughters Susan Emmerich (Joseph) of Jacksonville, Florida and Melinda Stoner (Margo) of Des Moines; eight grandchildren Sally Mitchell (Joe), Jill Freeburg (Max), Kristoffer Stoner (Amanda), Heidi Emmerich (Mike), Kara Mozolic (Garrett), Ryley Stoner, Khristina and Hezekiah Adams, and 24 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Shirley Barker, and four nieces. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry, her son Jeffrey Stoner, and a stillborn son.

Visitation for Bonnie will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Lutheran Church of Hope 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 am at the church.
