Betty Johnson, 87, died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Bright Kavanagh House of complications from a stroke. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Betty was born in Des Moines, lived in San Diego, CA, and Key West, FL and had lived in the Des Moines area for over 40 years. She was a homemaker and a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Betty enjoyed making porcelain dolls, knitting, crocheting, playing cards, making quilts and oil painting. She also loved to bake pies, especially for her family whom she always put first in her life.
Betty is survived by her son, William Johnson of Des Moines; three daughters, Mary (Dean) DeFord of Adel, Alicia (Wayne) Feldhacker of Creston and Rikki (Joe) Brafford of Lucas; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Claire Pritchard and Sue Moore, both of Des Moines; and a brother, Wayne (Naomi) Hill of Winterset. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Jon; grandson, Austin Brafford; parents, John and Lura Hill; three brothers, Fred, Neil and Gene; and a sister, Mildred Johnson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren’s Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.
