Ann Marie Krause, 87, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center. The family plans a cremation, followed by a future memorial service.
Ann was born January 18, 1935, to Vivien (Bloomfield) and George Angle, in Ames, Iowa. She attended Ames High School and afterwards married Roger H. Slaikeu, with whom she shared four children. Following a divorce, Ann met and married Robert (Bob) E. Krause, who had two children. Ann and Bob happily blended their families in 1968 and were married for 53 years. She spent her working career in the insurance industry.
Ann’s family best remembers her love of family, music, gardening, bird watching, and sewing. While she loved to play and sing songs from musicals, a favorite piano number was “Clair de Lune.” She made the best pecan pies ever. Bob especially remembers how she loved to sit in the sun by her pond, watching her multi-colored goldfish. That time was especially good when a bird landed nearby as she watched. She and Bob were lucky enough to spend time in Grand Isle, LA, during the migration of birds from South America. She loved to tell about a tree that was completely full of indigo buntings.
Ann is survived by her husband, Bob, their children Becky (Mark) Etchen, Deb (Steve) Morgenstern, Sarah (Dave) Morgan, Bill (Jill) Slaikeu, Jayne (Scott) Hezner, and JoEllyn (Greg) Witke, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Laura Lewis.
The family wishes to make special note of the loving care provided by the team at Glen Oaks and the Gentiva Hospice team. They made a difference.
