WESLACO – Juanito “Juan” Caballero, 65, of Weslaco, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016, following a short battle of cancer. He died peacefully, without pain, surrounded by his family. We take comfort that he is in the presence of our Lord. Juan was born in Weslaco, TX to the late Eduardo and Petra Caballero on September 11, 1950. On December 30, 1972, he married the love of his life, Carolina Ybarra (Segovia), and although they divorced almost 30 years later, they remained very close friends.
Juan worked for Weyerhauser and International Paper Co. for more than 40 years. He enjoyed his work and all the friends he met through his job. He only retired a year ago but was able to travel and visit his children and grandchildren in Dallas, TX. He enjoyed fishing, boating, watching TV, and spending time with his friends and family. They were truly Juan’s love and joy. He would help anyone in need, it didn’t matter who you were; whether it was a good meal, a place to stay, or just a good laugh.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; sister, Sulema Gutierrez; and brother, Rogelio Caballero.
Juan is survived by his four children, Diana (Kevin), Belinda (Ali), Johnny (Tasha), and Elma; his four grandchildren, Alyson and Jason Ronquillo, Rihanna and Deshawn Scaife; five brothers, Lupe, Eduardo Jr., Pedro, Frank, and Martin Caballero; three sisters, Maria Gutierrez, Dalia Valenzuela, and Minerva Rojas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to all who cared for him during his illness and those who loved and supported his family with prayers during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016, at Highland Funeral Home in Weslaco, TX. A chapel service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2016, at Highland Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, TX.
