Joe was born on February 2, 1946 in Weslaco, Texas to Emilio and Otilia (Hernandez) De Los Santos. He graduated from Weslaco High School in 1965. After graduating, Joe worked in the Rio Grande Valley and California in various capacities and that is when he met the love of his life, San Juana (Alcala) De Los Santos. It was at that moment that he found purpose and dedicated his life to his true passion—his family and faith. After over 30 years of working with Tom Crystal Advantage as a District Manager, Joe retired and devoted his life not only to his family but to various charities and organizations that he felt made a difference in the community, including the Charity (Food Bank) and the Knights of Columbus. In whatever role he served, Joe was faithful and dedicated and was driven in the service of God, his family and his community.
Joe loved Friday night football games where he and his nephews Mike and Dan De Los Santos would arm chair quarterback every play. He also loved to play golf but admittedly was not very good. Fortunately for Joe, neither were his friends or family.
Not long after the passing of his wife Janie in 2018, Joe discovered that he had cancer. Even though he was given just 6 months to live, Joe was a fighter by nature and survived for two years. With this precious time, he attempted to live his best life. Joe was inspired, in part, by his family and friends and, in part, by his new love, Norma Vallejo. The time they had together was filled with love, laughter and compassion and their time together was truly a blessing in his life.
While Joe has returned to God, he leaves a rich legacy through his children (Joe Jr., Jay and James De Los Santos), his grandchildren Ricki, Trey, Isabella and Jacob, his siblings Elva and Lamar and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other extended family members. Joe will always be remembered as a family man devoted to God and his church and will be deeply missed. He leaves us and this world a better place and we are all blessed to have been part of his walk.
A visitation for Joe will be held Friday, July 16, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Funeraria De Angel Highland Funeral Home, Weslaco, Texas. A church service at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Weslaco Texas will occur on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Information on burial will be provided later next week.
