Bob was born July 29, 1940 to Raymond and Odille Cormier. Bob was one of 13 children. He graduated from Lacassine High School. He served his country in United States Army. Bob later became a minister, affectionately known as Bro. Bob to many. He worked for Abe’s Grocery and Market Basket stores as a butcher and always had a smiling face. His last employment, his most loved, was for Hixson Funeral Homes. In this position, he was a great comfort to many during their grieving times.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years Carole Demarest Cormier of Welsh. Carole has been a selfless caregiver for Bob in these last years of his life – through sickness and health. His children: Natalie (Jim) Coughran and Dana Cormier of Winnsboro, LA, Harlan (Shaina) Wilson, Vivian Cormier, Khristian (Justin) Bouley of Welsh. Joseph Cormier of Tennessee, Hope (Greg) Leger of Lake Charles, Brian Cormier and Olivia Cormier of Welsh. His stepchildren: Dwayne (Sandra) Wilson of Jennings, Rhonda (Roddy) Poole and Tiersa (Cliff) Hebert of Welsh. Paw Paw Bob had 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also, his dear siblings, his brother E.J. (Cheryl) Cormier of Texas, sisters Mabel LeLeaux of Lafayette, Odille (JR) Fontenot of LeBleu Settlement and Verna Lynn Smith of New York. Bob was blessed with nephews, nieces and cousins who loved him and had a special place in his heart.
Bob was preceded his death by his parents, his brothers: Adley and Edmond Cormier, sisters: Ruby Mott, Ludy Stelly, Louise Vernon, Estella Adams, and granddaughter Kaylex Wilson.
Bob enjoyed playing the guitar and singing gospel hymns. If you came by for a visit and happened to bring a guitar that visit would surely turn in to a joyful time enjoyed by all. There would be a lot of storytelling, cutting up and wonderful singing. He also enjoyed working outside and riding four wheelers with his grandkids.
Service will be Friday, October 1 at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh, LA. Visitation from 8:30 am until 1pm at time of service. Service will be officiated by Bro. Gerald Rodrique. Bro. Rodrique shared Bob’s love of the Lord and his love for guitar playing and singing. He also performed Bob and Carole’s wedding ceremony 33 years ago. What a blessing that he also be here to lay Bob to rest.
Those chosen as pallbearers are Adam Coughran, Noah Coughran, Joseph Cormier, Brian Cormier, Tayton Poole and Garren Hebert. Honorary pallbearers are Aaron Cormier, Trenton Wilson, and Griffin Hebert.
And as Paw Paw would say, Thanks for coming.
