He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk and then School of Visual Arts in New York City where he studied Advertising, Graphic Design and related subjects. After finishing the program at School of Visual Arts he was offered an internship and then employment at Young and Rubicam (Y&R) one of the largest and most prestigious advertising agencies in the world.
Travel was one of two passions that he indulged in often. After his time at Y&R he spent a year camping throughout Europe and Morocco. His love for travel resulted in many trips to France, Italy and other points in Europe as well as numerous journeys to his beloved Japan.
His travels inspired him to create fine art, Ron’s other main focus. He created a vast range of work in oil paint, acrylics, oil pastels, woodblock and silkscreen printing and collage. He had the honor of studying woodblock printing with Clifton Karhu in Japan. His work has been exhibited in Europe, Japan and the US. He also maintained a graphic design studio in Virginia from the mid-1970s through 2010.
He fulfilled a dream when he built his studio and renovated a home in Truro, MA. He relocated there permanently from Alexandria, VA in 2017.
Ron is survived by Joseph Yacinski, his devoted partner, a sister, Barbara Flemmings, a brother, Stanley Flemmings and a nephew, Anthony Flemmings.
He will be missed by many and will be remembered as a gifted character who was endlessly inspired and inspiring. Ron was someone who saw the beauty in life and expressed it through his artwork and his unshakable “life is beautiful” philosophy.
