Ernie arrived into this world on June 7, 1935 in Brockton, MA as the first of five children of Ernest Francis Rose and Marguerite (DeLory) Rose, both born and brought up, after many generations, in Wellfleet, MA.
Ernie was pre-deceased by both his parents and his younger brother David A. Rose. He is survived by Mary A. Rose (Grealish) of Nenagh Tipperary, Ireland and sons Mark David of Falmouth, Keith Patrick and Shawn Raymond both of Wellfleet. He also leaves behind his sister, Dorothy Herold (Rose) of Wellfleet; brothers Raymond Rose of Wellfleet and Harwich, and James Rose of Wellfleet; 4 grandchildren Nathan and Olivia of Falmouth, Gabrial of Santa Monica, CA, and Vanessa of New York City; as well as many close relatives and friends.
Ernie graduated from Wellfleet High School in 1953 and joined the US Air Force shortly after. He proudly served a 21 year career in the Air Force, retiring in 1973 as a decorated Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
After retiring, he and his family moved back to Wellfleet and opened Rose's Auto Repair and Towing, which he owned and operated the rest of his life.
Ernie was very proud of his Wellfleet heritage and spent many days hunting and fishing the Lower Cape. He really loved seafood and enjoyed taking his family and friends out collecting oysters and clams at low tide all over Wellfleet, following in his grandfather's (Henry DeLory the former Wellfleet Shellfish Warden) footstep.
He will be sorely missed by all that were lucky enough to know him.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourde's Church, Rt. 6 in Wellfleet on Saturday, October 10th at 10 AM, followed by burial at Our Lady of Lourde's Cemetery in Wellfleet. A reception for all family and friends will be held immediately after burial.
