Charles P. Mulligan, age 76 of Wellfleet, passed away at Cape Cod Hospital on Tuesday evening January 15, 2019, embraced in the loving arms of his wife Cheryl from complications of End Stage Renal Disease.
Charlie was a retired Emergency Room Technician at Cape Cod Hospital. In addition, he was one of the first Paramedics at the Wellfleet Fire Department. Charlie was passionate about helping others and trained, inspired and mentored many.
Charles and Cheryl were considered by many to be pioneers in home hemodialysis. Together they learned how to provide Charles these treatments from the comfort of their own special surroundings.
Charlie loved many things in his life, such as reading, his garden, animals and the New England Patriots. However above all else, was the love he had for his wife Cheryl. Together they shared an extraordinary love, bond and commitment to each other that many are not privileged to experience.
Charles was incredibly proud of his three sons, their accomplishments and of the fine men they have become.
Charles is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cheryl, his sons Charles W. Mulligan, Ryan F. Williams and Mary and Peter E. Williams. Three grandchildren and one great grandchild. In addition his special family:
Joseph, Debra, Jordan and Jillian Fisher. His cat and most faithful companion Tiger, who he adored and who never missed sleeping next to his Daddy during each and every treatment.
There are so many people who helped navigate Charles and Cheryl through this journey. However some deserve special mention:
James Reimer, MD for his intense dedication and commitment to his patients. Betsy, his Dialysis nurse who has a heart of gold. Also to everyone who interacted with Charles in the Emergency Room, Mugar 5 and ICU. You are the best.
His memorial service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 4pm tp 6pm in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 340 Main Street, Wellfleet, MA 02667.
