It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to our beloved mother, grandmother/MaMa, and great-grandmother, Kay Marie Johnson, of Pasadena, Texas, who passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the age of 88.
Kay was born on August 8, 1936, in Metropolis, Illinois to Jack Foster and Margaret Bell Walker. She left college for marriage and moved to Texas in the 1950’s and settled in Pasadena, Texas, where she became the loving mother to four daughters. After a divorce in the 1960s, Kay faced the challenge of raising her four young daughters on her own. She met those challenges head on with an abundance of love, understanding, and a postponement of worry, knowing that tomorrow is another day. She put her worries in the Lord’s hands and passed along her Christian faith to her girls.
It was on the arrival of her grandchildren that Kay found her nirvana. She relished every moment spent with all seven of her grandchildren, caring for them from babyhood to young adults. She gave them her time, wisdom, love of reading, and hours of playing cards and games. She was always cheering at soccer, football, and basketball games, going to countless dance recitals and drill team dances, and joining in on family vacations. But most of all, she gave them her unconditional love. She said that her grandchildren were the loves of her life and each of them knew and felt her love and support for them. She was so excited to be a great-grandmother to baby Walker and was looking forward to meeting her newest great-grandson, Cooper, this coming spring.
Kay is survived by her four loving daughters and their husbands, Paula and Jeff Mobley of Austin, Texas; Kim and Mike Davis of Pasadena, Texas; Renee and Jim Granberry of Houston, Texas; and Laurie and Mark Schmidt of Bryan, Texas. She is survived by her beloved grandchildren and their significant others: Grant Mobley and wife Vanessa, Ty Mobley and Julianna Edmeier, Madison Davis, Matthew Davis and wife Samantha, Meredith Granberry and husband Brent, Foster Yoist, William Granberry and Gabby McGuire, and great-grandson, Walker Davis. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Holloway of Jackson, Tennessee.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Foster and Margaret Walker, and her sister, Sara Rose.
Kay was an inspiration to all who knew her and a great source of strength to her family. She was incredibly kind and her dry sense of humor never failed to make us laugh. She was the rock that held our family together and she will be forever missed. We take comfort in knowing that she is experiencing the joy of eternal life in Heaven, and that one day we will see her again.
The family will hold a private graveside service at Forest Park East.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”– John 3:16
