A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law and friend, Glenda Dale Stone Johnson was born January 28, 1942 in Taylor, TX to Dora and Ralph Stone. She went to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 13, 2024.
Glenda was raised in and around Elgin, TX and graduated EHS in 1960. She met and married the love of her life, Roy, in 1958 at just 16 years old. Roy and Glenda celebrated their 66th anniversary on February 1st. Her love for him was constant and unchanging. Even when words eluded her, you would hear her call out for her “Bud”, the loving pet name for Roy that she used all their life.
Glenda became a mother to daughter Geralyn, in 1961, and then to Andrea and Danica in 1964 and 1966, respectively. The family was made complete with the birth of Erica in 1971.
Roy and Glenda made their first real home in Rio Hondo, TX when Roy took his first post college job with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. From there, they made their home in Kemah, TX until 1986, then League City and eventually, on to Pearland. Each house was filled with love and joyful memories.
Glenda was an accomplished pianist and used her gifts serving her churches in Kemah, League City and Pearland, as well as accompanying students and choirs in the school system. For many years, she taught piano lessons in her home. While in Pearland, she served the needs of the elderly as she provided musical leadership for worship services at Windsong Nursing Home, and was a faithful member of Pearland First United Methodist Church. She worked for CCISD until her retirement in 2003, and made many friends during those years as she served faculties, administrators and a multitude of community members in her capacity as school secretary, and later, secretary to the GT coordinators. She was awarded a Texas Life Membership in the PTA. She enjoyed entertaining, baking, reading, and was a master of cross stitch. She was a fan of many sports, and was an avid fan of UT football and her beloved Houston Astros.
Glenda’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving wife to Roy, and proud mother to her four daughters. She set the gold standard as a grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She attended concerts, school functions, plays, recitals and sporting events all over the state. She loved each one fiercely and created many memories with them. She adored her many fur babies over the years, and spoiled the most recent one, a boxer named Bertie.
Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Dora Stone, and her brother, Ken Stone.
She is survived by her husband Roy, daughters Geri (Glenn) Foster, Andrea (Eric) Shaw, Danica (Sean) Marrelli, and Erica (Robert) Zwernemann, her grandchildren and their spouses and children; Zachary and Danielle Foster (Jackson and William), Riley Foster, Benjamin and Elizabeth Foster (Adalyn and Lucas), Emily (Shaw) and Joel Dolan (Jonah, Ivy and Lilly), Ellen (Shaw) and Quinton Polak (Eli and Samuel), Erin (Shaw) and Jamie Magnasco, Caroline Marrelli, Abby Marrelli, Olivia Marrelli, Zoe Zwernemann, and Ian Zwernemann; as well as sisters-in-law Dolores Stone and Betty Johnson, niece Elise (Steven) Johnson, and nephew Kenneth (Patti) Stone.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Alzheimer’s Association.
