Ret. Lt. Colonel Edgar Joe Holt, Sr. “Joe”/”Pop”, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Clear Lake City, TX on Monday, July 4, 2016.
Born to Fred O. Holt and Rebecca Blanton Holt in Fort Worth, TX on Thursday, November 1, 1928. Joe spent his formative years working at the Ft. Worth Stockyards until starting college at the University of North Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science after transferring to the University of Texas and taught Biology as well as being assistant football coach, gaining the endearing nick name “Coach”. He furthered his education at University of Houston obtaining his Masters.
Joe was accomplished at many things, including Educator, Fighter Pilot, World Traveler, Golden Glove Boxer, Comedian and all around good guy! His favorite hobbies included: Lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Tai Chi, Classical Guitarist, Lowrey Organist, woodworking, physical fitness, ballroom dancing with memberships in Mainland, Two Left Feet and Lords and Ladies dance groups, water color painting and the 147th Retiree Group.
At the suggestion of a friend, Joe enlisted in the Marine Corps before joining the Air Force where he completed pilot training and was commissioned 2nd Lt. He completed his service at the 147th FIG /111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron as a Safety Officer at Ellington Air Force Base.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 11, 2016 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm in the Chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, TX 77598. Funeral services to follow at 3:00pm. Interment Forest Park East Cemetery.
There will be a reception at Clear Lake United Methodist Church on El Camino immediately following the burial. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joe Holt’s life.
