Carol was born in Covington, Kentucky on November 17, 1944 to Erma and John Schmidt. She passed away on December 14, 2013. Carol is preceded in death by her parents Erma and John Schmidt, her sister Dianne Skidmore and her son John Haley. Carol is survived by her daughter Debbie Liput, son-in-law Chris Liput, sister Sue Eisenhart, brother-in-law Bill Eisenhart, grandsons Zac Liput and Gary Wagner and nieces Christi Winburn, Rose Tomaschfsky and Cathy Carlton and life-long friend Pat Hannagan.
Carol was a resident of Seabrook, Texas for 40 years. She was a charter member of the Clear Lake Emergency Medical Corp (CLEMC). She began her career at the Soil Conservation Company in League City, Texas. She was then hired by Ford Aerospace in 1968 as a secretary. While working at Ford Aerospace she attended the University of Houston-Clear Lake and earned her Bachelors & Masters degree. She graduated Magna Cum-Laude and was in the first graduating class of UH Clear Lake.
After the death of her mother Erma, Carol and several firefighters from the Seabrook Volunteer Fire Department started the Clear Lake Emergency Medical Corp. While working as a full-time employee with Ford Aerospace and raising two kids as a single parent, Carol would volunteer first as a Emergency Medical Technician and then as a Paramedic with CLEMC for 25 years. Carol left Ford Aerospace after 31 years and began working as a Procurement Agent for The Boeing Company in 2000. She was a member of the MERT Team, a group of emergency response volunteer employees with Boeing. She was a 20-gallon blood donor with St. Luke's Hospital Blood Program.
Carol truly loved spending time with her family and sitting on her patio with Pat and working in her yard. Her family would like to express their gratitude for the care given to Carol by the staff's of St. John Hospital, Kindred Clear Lake Hospital and Kindred Rehab Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the American Lung Association in honor of Carol Haley for COPD research.
Viewing and Funeral Services will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home located at 21620 Gulf Freeway in Webster on Saturday, December 21, 2013. Viewing will be from 10-12 with services immediately following.
