John “Kevin” Coyne, a resident of Webster Groves, MO passed away on Friday, March 14. He bravely fought against the pancreatic cancer that took his life. Kevin was born on April 15, 1955 to Charles (deceased) and Mary Coyne. He graduated from St Joseph Central High School where he was on both the football and golf teams. He received a BS in Accounting and an MBA from the University of Missouri Columbia. He met his wife, Denise (Hobbs) Coyne at Mizzou. Together, they had three children, Katy, Patrick and Erin. Kevin was a devoted father who loved coaching each of his children’s Holy Redeemer CYC teams, spanning over 20 years. Besides coaching, he also served as the Volleyball and Basketball Coordinator for the Holy Redeemer Athletic Association, taught in the Parish School of Religion, and led Children’s Liturgy during Mass. His love for volleyball led him to coach club teams for the Gateway Region, and then to become the Club Director for the St. Louis Elite teams.
Kevin’s career was spent in the Risk Management field, working at McDonnell Douglas, Earthgrains/Sara Lee, A. J. Gallagher and most recently with the Saint Louis Public School System. While at SLPS, he led the effort to run a student art contest to promote safety in the schools. The school system recently decided to name the art contest after Kevin in appreciation for his efforts.
He was a kind, loving, honest man with a great sense of humor and a gentle smile. He will be sorely missed by those lives that he touched.
He is survived by his loving wife Denise Coyne (nee Hobbs); his mother Mary Coyne; his children, Katy Drabelle (Tom), Patrick Coyne and Erin Coyne; his grandchildren, Michael and Will Drabelle; his sisters Marlee Coyne, Joan Adams (David) and Jenny Jackson (Robert); and his 12 nieces and nephews.
