Wilsie "Judy" Catherine Smathers

Wilsie "Judy" Catherine Smathers, age 83, of Waynesville, North Carolina passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Judy was born in Haywood County on December 12, 1940, to the late Rufus and Bertha Derrick Smathers. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Judy retired from operating the switchboard at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

In addition to her parents Judy was preceded in death by her brothers, Gordon Smathers, Rufus Eugene, (infant) Harry Arthur, William Kenneth and Willis "Bud" Franklin Smathers; and sisters, Carene Lewis, Mildred Medford, Bessie Wood, Dorothy Clark, Phyllis Roper, Margie Stamey and Patricia Nix; nephews, Steve Smathers, Johnny Lewis and Thomas Smathers; and niece, Fran Drinnon.

Judy is survived by her nephew and nieces; several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and special friend, David Justice.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 22, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Kevin Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
