Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather
Waynesville, NC – Thomas DeWitt Hyatt, 84, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020 at his residence.
He was born in Haywood County, at his current residence, on October 13, 1935 to the late David DeWitt and Lula Belle Plott Hyatt. He joined the National Guard in 1954, later went to welding school in Troy, Ohio, and then joined his brother Plott working in the shipyard in Newport News, Virginia for several years. He returned to Haywood County and joined Dayco as a welder in 1962, where he worked for over 35 years before retiring. He was an avid Nascar fan, enjoyed riding his lawn mower, and was devoted to his cat.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Colleen Williams Hyatt, and brother Franklin Plott Hyatt.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Eliza Colleen (Leena) McAteer and her husband Keith, of Wake Forest; two grandchildren, Jacob and Emily McAteer.
Funeral services to honor Thomas will be held in the Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Green Hill Cemetery next to his beloved wife. Considering the current public health situation, visitation prior to the funeral will not be held.
