Reginald Lee “Reggie” Hedrick, 89 of Asheville, North Carolina passed away October 31, 2022 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. As a believer in Christ, he now lives restored with him in heaven. Reggie was born in Quinwood, West Virginia to Edith McClung and Lee Roy Hedrick. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Hedrick and grandson Jordan Hedrick. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Joyce Young Hedrick; four children and their spouses, Brian Hedrick (Mellonee) of Marietta, Georgia, Barbara Burril (Matthew) of Fletcher, North Carolina, Mark Hedrick (Beth) of Asheville, North Carolina and Scott Hedrick (Delaney) of Cooper City, Florida; fourteen grandchildren and their spouses Michaela Avery (Pete), Aaron Hedrick, Luke Hedrick (Leah), Jacob Hedrick, Bridget Langley (Braden), Julie Bohannon, Laura Lee Rorabaugh (Jonathan), Valerie Bohannon, Lauren Ware (Matt), Paige Wimmer (Trey), Blake Hedrick (Emily), Nicole Hedrick, Jenna Hedrick and Brooke Hedrick; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Reggie lived his life cherishing and providing for his family, always making them his priority, believing that “Children are a heritage from the Lord; offspring a reward from Him.” from Psalm 127.
Reggie grew up in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, where he worked at the local hardware store and the Greenbrier Resort. After a tour in the U.S. Army, he completed his degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. Reggie had a distinguished career as a Registered Professional Engineer and later in industrial electronics management with companies such as Sperry, Magnavox, Martin Marietta and Rockwell International in New York, Illinois, Florida and Georgia. He was most proud to be one of the innovators and manufacturer of the first residential smoke detectors. He was a member and former Director of Rotary Club and Toastmasters and on advisory boards of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Easter Seals, Heart of Georgia Technical Institute, and Nations Bank. Reggie served his church as a steward, Sunday school teacher and choir member.
In retirement, he and Joyce enjoyed travelling the country in their motorhome, attending RV rallies and visiting friends and family in most of the contiguous United States.
During his life, Reggie exemplified Paul’s admonition in Acts 20:35 when he remembers the words of the Lord Jesus, “It is more blessed to give than receive.” He was continually giving of his time, energy and talents to his family, church, work, and community.
The family would like to thank the staff at Deerfield Retirement Community’s Simonds Healthcare Center for their excellent, compassionate care of Reggie during the final year of his life. They treated him and us like one of your family and we are grateful.
