Peggy Jo Powell

Peggy Jo Powell, age 82, of Waynesville, North Carolina passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth Long; her loving husband John Ensley Powell; and two sisters, Becky Long and Nancy Schulhofer all of Waynesville.

Peggy is survived by her daughters, Johnnie Sue Davis of Waynesville and Becky Powell Hellum of Norway; four grandchildren, Powell Davis, Ivie Greene (Justin), of Waynesville, Christina and Alex Hellum of Norway; one great-grandson, Rylee Greene, of Waynesville; and two beloved friends who were chosen family, Arthur Woody and Lane Hambrick, of Waynesville.

Among the things Peggy loved most was her Lord and Savior, her family and friends, her koi pond, cooking, baking, bird watching and her dog Raphie.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 14, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with Reverend and Friend Billy Ferguson officiating. Entombment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

She will be greatly missed by her family who look forward to the Great Reunion they will have.
