John Robert Terrell, 92 of Clyde, NC passed away at his residence surrounded by is loving family on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. John was born in Clyde, NC on March 15, 1932, to the late Hessie and Edna Noland Terrell.
Left to cherish John's memory are his loving wife of 70 years, Viola "Vi" Taylor Terrell; brother, Edwin Terrell of Bakersville, NC; children, Gray Terrell (Clara), Laura Deweese (Kim), Linda Milner (Mike),and Lisa Thornton (Rodney); eight grandchildren, Lori, Nathan, Natalie, Rachel, Nicole, Bryan, Taylor and Elizabeth; nine great-grandchildren, Conner, Nicholas, Mackenzie, Lydia, Harper, Anna, Mason, Eden and Bryson. Also loved by John were many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.
John was a 1950 graduate of Waynesville Township High School, a United States Army Veteran and graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career with CP&L followed by Dayco and retired from WNC Air Pollution Control. He was a devoted, loving husband, daddy, granddaddy, uncle and friend. His heart was in farming, especially on his beloved Chambers Mountain with his father and brother.
John was a lifetime member of Long's Chapel Methodist Church, and devoted to serving as a Sunday School Teacher and serving on numerous committees. He was a Boy Scout Leader, Lions Club Member, and a Freemason in the Clyde Masonic Lodge.
John will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will always be remembered by his warm smile and his humble nature. John was a special person. He always saw the good in others and his life characterized 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 6, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations. Burial will follow at Fincher's Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
