With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Fidelis (Dale) Mateer Jackson on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Dale was a beloved wife, mother, friend, and an integral part of many lives in Haywood County, NC.
She is survived by her loving husband, John, sons Scott and James, their wives, and grandchildren, Davin, Jordan, and Scott Jr. Her brother, John Mateer, Jr., sister, Florence Mooney, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews also mourn her passing.
Dale was born January 18, 1947 to John F. and Florence Mateer in Washington, D.C . After graduating from the Academy of Notre Dame '65 and a brief period at Nazareth College in Bardstown, Kentucky, Dale transferred to Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education '69. While at Fairleigh Dickinson, she was actively involved in student life and served as a Delta Chi Delta Sorority officer.
Dale dedicated her life to education and teaching, leaving an indelible mark on all she taught and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Dale's influence extended beyond her students, as she was known for her keen wit, kindness, generosity, good humor, calm demeanor, devotion to family, and faithfulness to Christ. Her absence will be deeply felt by those she knew and loved.
A memorial service for Dale will be held on December 14, 2024, at 11 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 234 Church Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
