John W. Strope, age 79, of W. Brownsville, formerly of Waynesburg, passed away on July 13, 2024.
He was a son of George and Thelma (King) Strope. He graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1963 and served with the USAF during the Vietnam War. He then worked in the Nemacolin coal mines until it closed. John then went to Pittsburgh School of Aeronautics and got his A&P and IA licenses. He was the owner operator of the Strope's Aircraft Maintenance of the Greene County Airport. He was a member of the Allison Church of the Nazarene. John was formerly married to Dorothy Davis Strope.
John is survived by two daughters Angie (Storm) Vick of Virginia, Kelly (Jim) Hollister of Georgia; three sons Jamie (Kelly) Strope of Washington PA, Benjy Strope of North Carolina, and Toby Strope of Waynesburg; 12 grandchildren; one great grandson; brother Larry (Marianne) and sister Nancy of Carmichaels.
Deceased in addition to his parents, brother Donley (Joanne) and brother Wayne who died in childhood.
John was loved by many and was a big part of the Greene County Airport. A memorial service will be held in August.
