STAUNTON—Sarah Margaret (Simmons) Osgood, 93, a resident of the Legacy at North Augusta Street and formerly of 220 Institute Street, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Augusta Health Center in Fishersville, VA.
Born February 16, 1918 in Maysville, WV, she was the sixth of 7 children of the late Edgar Franklin and Annie May Smith Simmons. Her family and friends were her dearest treasures. She will be remembered as the loving wife of William Kenrick Osgood for 69 years, the mother of John Osborn Osgood of Waynesboro, VA and Ronald William Osgood and his wife Susanne (Caney) Osgood of Springfield MA, a grandmother of 7 and the great grandmother of 10.
Sarah, who was known as Margy to most, worked for doctors Whitehouse and Courtney in Hyattsville, MD and also for the East Harford, CT school system. She resided at various times in her life in CT, KY, VA, Canada and Venezuela. She was a former member of the Central United Methodist Church in Staunton, Sally Fuller and Rebecca Circles, Open Door Fellowship, Christian Woman’s Club, Aglow and the Stroke Club on behalf of her husband. More recently she was a member of the Jollivue United Methodist Church in Staunton where she happily worshiped in its loving congregation. As she traveled with her husband in his profession, she was an active volunteer for numerous civic groups in Canada and Venezuela and the U.S. She loved to sing and was a member of the Happy Notes in Staunton for many years. Her most favorite role, however, was that of homemaker and caring for her husband and family. She was a great cook. There were always great meals at her table and laughter in the air. She was loved and respected by all.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on April 21, 2012 at the Jollivue United Methodist Church, 551 Lee-Jackson Highway (Route 11) Staunton, VA 24401. Interment will be at St. Michael Church Cemetery in Sugar Grove, WV, following the service. All friends and family are invited to attend.
