Ray was born in Charlottesville on November 17, 1940 to the late Gilbert Dewey and Mary Elizabeth (Wolfe) Ross.
Ray was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a good friend to many and his steadfast presence was known throughout the community. Ray was loyal, kind and always eager to give his time and energy to help others.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, was a member of Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren, was owner of Ray Ross Painting and co-owner of Burks Paint.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Snead; brothers, Bill Ross and wife, Phyllis, Jerry Ross and wife, Polly, and Lamar Ross.
Survivors include his wife, Frankie (Fitzgerald) Ross; daughter, Kelly Garber and husband, John; sisters, Coralee Smith and Peggy Fletcher; brother, Jimmy Ross and wife, Betty; grandchildren, Tayler Crum and husband, Jason, Mackenzie Eavey and husband, James, Kate Morris and husband, Taylor, and Olivia Garber; great-grandchildren, Mackson Ross Crum, Miller Kai Crum, and Hadleigh Jane Eavey.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Augusta Memorial Park with Pastor Mike Woods and Eddie Major officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Steve Ellinger, David Shuck, Jason Crum, Bob Burks, Gary Scrogham, and John Garber.
There will be no public viewing or visitation at the funeral home. Friends will be received at the home of Mrs. Ross, 409 Sandy Ridge Rd., Waynesboro, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
