Gladys Elizabeth “Betty” Key, 86, of Waynesboro passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 at Augusta Health. She was born in Augusta County on February 26, 1929, the daughter of the late Ella Blair Whitmore.
Gladys was an active member of Hermitage Presbyterian Church. She worked for many years as a nurse at the District Home. Gladys was a spiritual woman. She greatly enjoyed reading her Bible, raising her five boys, and spoiling her grandchildren. Gladys never met a stranger; everyone she met was a member of her family.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Key.
Survivors include her five sons, John Thomas Key Jr. and wife, Betty, Andrew C. Key and wife, Michelle, Gerald B. Key, David Lynn Key and wife, Jeanette, and Timothy C. Key and wife, Rebecca; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, extended family, and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. , Monday, November 16, 2015 at Hermitage Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 46 Hildebrand Church Road, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980 with Rev. Wray Sherman officiating.
There will be no public visitation at the funeral home.
