Born September 24, 1941 in Waynesboro, she was a daughter of the late Leonard Lee and Gladys (Berry) Wright.
Prior to retirement, Jean was employed by Leggett Department Store in Waynesboro where she worked as a buyer/manager for 18 years. She was a member of Tinkling Springs Presbyterian Church. Jean was an avid NY Yankees fan, a talented seamstress and greatly enjoyed going camping with family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn C. Hanger, Sr.; two infant sons, Jeffrey and Troy Hanger; infant daughter, Glenna Hanger; and sister, Peggy Quick.
Survivors include her son, Glenn C. “Chris” Hanger, Jr. and wife, Beth of Lyndhurst; grandchildren, Gregory Hanger and Kristin Bush (Devon); step-grandchildren, George “D.J.” Johnson, Jr. (Heather), Christopher Fitzgerald (Melissa), Tabitha Royal (L.J.), Collin Fitzgerald, Trinity Farmer, McKenna Lowery, Madison Fitzgerald, Devon Johnson, CaLeigh Fitzgerald, Shelby Fitzgerald, Isaiah Fitzgerald, Tristan Johnson, and Georgie Johnson; great-grandsons, Jaxon Hanger and Levi Davis; sister, Helen Wright; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be D.J. Johnson, Chris Fitzgerald, Michael Diehl, Kirby Arbogast, Jeff Wagner, Pat McCauley, and Chip Wood.
Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends attending the service.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to McKenna Lowery, Lisa Phillips, and her hospice nurse Jeannie Smith Pace for their love, care, and support of Jean.
