So sad to find out online Mr. Martin has passed. He was my 6th grade teacher at Alexander Hamilton Elementary, 1964-65. I was a safety boy captain and went to school early every day. One thing I would do before going on duty would be to go to Miss Sobczynskis' classroom to feed her fish. But... before I fed the fish she made me spell her name out loud ! What a great memory of that time in my life. Mr. Martin was a great teacher. He always called me "Kawl" with a funny accent ! Makes me smile, another great memory. I remember back then they were fond of each other and heard they had married, wonderful 55 years, so happy for them. I need to call " Miss Sobczynski " and see if she remembers me.

I was truly blessed to be there caregiver. I'm truly sorry you your loss. Breaks my heart. You guys will always be in my heart

Dear Dee, Jennifer, & Elizabeth,  
We are so sorry to hear about the passing of John.  Barry worked with John at Wildwood until he was promoted to Marshall in 1986. He spoke about John as an honest, respectful, & kind person.  He said John was one of the “good guys” & he truly enjoyed working with him.  Barry also added that every member of the staff was treated equally by John, no matter what their position was at Wildwood.  Dee, you & I worked together at Walker until I went on maternity leave.  A few years later, your daughters  were at a Swim Team banquet & I was working in the Culinary Arts program.  At that time you & I talked a bit & you introduced me to your sweet husband, John.  Then we met up again when you were helping out in the Instruction Dept. & I was working in the Superintendents Office.  Between Barry & John working together, add that to you & I working together, we have a wonderful long history.   John will be missed by family, friends, & his many former co-workers.  He was definitely one of the best!  Heaven has certainly gained an Angel.

John was my principal at Wildwood.We respected each other very much. We were both passionate about education and  had many discussions about our philosophy! He gave me the freedom to teach kindergarten my way and always supported me! I appreciated his support and we shared friendship and respect. Thanks for the memories, John! Love to you Dee.

Dear Mrs. Martin and family, I'm so sorry for the loss of Mr. Martin. 
He was loved by many and will remain with so many also. 
I pray you all find comfort and peace at this difficult time.

My heart goes out to Dee, Elizabeth and Jennifer.  You were blessed with one of the good ones and you were able to have him for a long time.  He had such a long and distinguished career with the school district and impacted many lives that he touched.  He now rests with the angels who will take good care of him until you are all united again one day.  Peace be with all of you as you go through this time together. Carol Middel 

John taught all three of my children/he was a great teacher/my son had a broken leg in 6th grade and was in a class of 35/not much room to move around/John, often took a student to his home for lunch/students loved him and respected him/John became principal of Wildwood School /my grandchildren went to Wildwood so the next generation had John/John, you and my husband Ed Patino had a great time at the Hootannanny put on at Hamilton/I will always think of you fondly/your friend, Ann Patino


My family and I have been blessed to be neighbors to the Martins  for many years and we will all miss John but we have a lot of great memories about how he impacted our lives. 

Through the years John and I had many discussion about solving the issues of the world as we talked over the fence.  He imparted a lot of wisdom to me and my children  and was a wonderful example of how to be kind  and gentle person.
