Rachel Madelon Ward

Rachel Madelon (Hiar) Ward, age 77, passed away unexpectedly December 28, 2016 during a recent hospitalization at Florida Hospital, Sebring Florida. She was born in Leighton Township October 26, 1939 the daughter of Carl and Gertrude (Guffin) Hiar. She leaves behind 3 children Steven (Dan Palma) Ward, Pamela (Tim) Allison, Patricia (David) McCowen; her 6 grandchildren, Sara Karwoski, Ashley Wienczkowski, Rachel (Steven) Kolar, Matthew (Lindsay) Bilotti, Alicia (Charlie) Elkins, Kaylee McCowen; and her 5 great- grandchildren, Gabriella, Teagan, Reece, Caden and Charlie; Sister in-law Stella Hiar, and many nieces, nephews and extended relatives. Rachel is preceded in death by her husband of fifty years Douglas, her daughter Debra, parents Carl and Gertrude Hiar, father and mother in law Dale and Dorothy Ward, brother Ken Hiar and sister Virginia Porter. Funeral and committal services in celebration of life will take place at 10am, Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Therese Catholic Church 128 Cedar St., Wayland, Michigan. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Wayland, Michigan. Family will be greeting members of the community for visitation from 6-8 pm with a rosary being held at 5:30 Friday, January 6 at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home – Wayland Chapel 312 N. Main St., Wayland, Michigan and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Wayland EMS or the Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center.
